WNBC-TV reported, “Neighbors said that Thomas, who lived just a couple blocks from where the shooting took place, and Bell had a volatile relationship, fighting often. It was not known how that escalated to the killing.”

Same from the Daily News: “A neighbor said the victim and her former girlfriend had a toxic relationship. “They lived together for years,” the neighbor said. “But they were always fighting. They had a big falling out about three years ago and she left.”

The Brooklyn Paper reported shootings are rare in this part of New York City:

Police say a gun-toting woman shot 52-year-old Nichelle Thomas, who lived nearby on Warren Street, once in the head on Fourth Avenue near St. Mark’s Place at around 1:00 pm. Paramedics rushed the victim to Methodist Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 1:26 pm.

…At the crime scene, a bag of grapes, a small pool of blood, and a discarded piece of medical equipment could be seen on the ground while police taped off the area.

Gun violence is exceedingly rare in Park Slope, with this being the first incident recorded in the 78th precinct in 2021, according to city data.
