Police One reported:

The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department says its officers were shot at in a “setup” while responding to an active shooter call Tuesday. Officer Brian Sherman was shot in the arm and has been released from the hospital, police said.

According to NewsChannel 5, the 911 caller opened fire when officers tried to enter the home. Officers retreated and the gunman, 22-year-old Salman Mohamed, followed them. According to the report, Mohamed died when he shot himself outside the home. No officers fired their weapons, police said.

“We believe the person who made the 911 call was Mohamed himself,” said MNPD Spokesman Don Aaron at a press conference. “In fact, on the 911 call, you can hear him saying that he’s scared that shots are continuing to be fired. ‘Hurry, hurry, please get here in a hurry.’ It was a ruse to get the police officers to this scene,” said Aaron during a press briefing.

Aaron said Mohamed’s motive wasn’t immediately clear.

“This was a ruse or a setup to get the police to come to the house,” Aaron repeated.
