In case you’re wondering how Vice President Kamala Harris’ swing through Guatemala and Mexico is going, Univision is now helpfully (and sycophantically) reminding viewers that Harris has a Mexican cousin.
Watch as midday anchor Borja Voces comically attempts to redirect viewers from Harris’ viral “don’t come” statements in Guatemala:
BORJA VOCES, UNIVISION: The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, has Mexican relatives! Listen to this. One of them is her first cousin. Her name is Sharada Balachandran-Orihuela, who is of Indian and Mexican descent. Orihuela is an associate professor at the University of Maryland, and has lived in the United States, India, and Mexico.
Deported migrants will no doubt find comfort in the knowledge that they were told not to come to the United States by someone who has a Mexican cousin. These 22 seconds, on the heels of a reluctant two minutes on Harris’ visit to Mexico and reaction to “Don’t Come”, is further proof evident of the media’s sycophantic treatment of the Biden Administration- a Latino variant, if you will, on Brian Stelter’s embarrassing interview with White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. “Reports” like these exemplify both the disconnect between the nation’s Latino networks and their audiences, and the community’s eroding trust in these institutions.
