As if the actual dismal job report released by the Department of Labor for August 2021 were not bad enough, an anchor at Univision saw the need to spice things up with a sprinkling of FAKE NEWS as to why 4.3 million American left their jobs that month, attributing the lie to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Watch as anchor Elyangélica González, from the midday Univision News, Digital Edition, misinforms the audience by saying that, “according to the Department of Labor”, the job separations were “happening due to a combination of increased opportunities with better pay elsewhere, in addition to fear over the Delta variant”. Never ones to miss a chance to cleanup Biden´s mess.
Noticiero Univisión: Edición Digial
ELYANGÉLICA GONZÁLEZ, UNIVISIÓN: Let’s move on because our number of the day is: 4 million, 300 thousand. That’s the record number of Americans that quit their jobs, which is the highest since December of 2000 and which is equivalent to 3% of the workforce. August hirings fell to 6.3 million, as opposed to 6.8 million in July. According to the Department of Labor, this is happening due to a combination of increased opportunities with better pay elsewhere, in addition to fear over the Delta variant.
Total separations includes quits, layoffs and discharges, and other separations. Quits are generally voluntary separations initiated by the employee. Therefore, the quits rate can serve as a measure of workers’ willingness or ability to leave jobs. Layoffs and discharges are involuntary separations initiated by the employer. Other separations includes separations due to retirement, death, disability, and transfers to other locations of the same firm.
A Univision.com report on the same subject speculates on the possible causes for the exodus; but from there to González stating for a fact that it was official government information, deserves to be called out for what it is: FAKE NEWS.
