Telemundo Shoves Abortion Into Report on Virginia Election

Telemundo anchor Nacho Lozano found a way to divert attention from the inconvenient issues that have swung the Virginia election by making their report all about the Texas abortion law.

Just seconds into opening a 5-minute plus report with, “today is election day in various parts of the country,” and in Virginia “the elections are looking tight”, Lozano shifted to the real subject of the story: “how the Supreme Court will address appeals to Texas’ restrictive abortion law.”

Watch as Lozano pivots back to his abortion advocacy not once, but twice during the report- effectively pushing the network´s liberal agenda onto their audiences:

NACHO LOZANO: Today is election day in various parts of the country. However, the eyes are set, above all, on Virginia where the elections are looking tight and could be a reference before the midterms next year. Another important issue is how the Supreme Court of Justice will address appeals to Texas’ restrictive abortion law.

 …

Now, Josef, uh, we’re going to move on to other issues, uh, which unfortunately are political when they shouldn’t be. And we’re talking about rights, and particularly what, what happens in the Supreme Court. This anti-abortion law in Texas is being discussed. What do you think of what is happening in the Supreme Court and how has the matter been politicized?

I wanted to ask you, what would it be, to round-up your prediction, if, if there can be one at this point, Josef?

JOSEF MALOUF, ESQ.: Yes, I think so. I’ve studied the ideology of the Court–of-the justices who are on the Supreme Court now, and I can tell you with confidence that Roe vs. Wade, the right to abortion, is going to be eliminated by this Supreme Court, no doubt. This is something that in previous years they have wanted to do, but they lacked the numbers, and now they have the necessary numbers to do it.

NACHO: Híjole, not very heartening, Joseph. Thank you so much.

The irony of Lozano´s claim that the issues surrounding abortion “unfortunately are political when they shouldn’t be”, can´t be escaped in a politically tilted report featuring Telemundo´s expert on constitutional law – watch his exchange promo spot anytime! – somberly anticipating a change in Roe v. Wade.

“Yes, I think so”, Malouf tells the Telemundo audience. “I’ve studied the ideology of the Court–of-the justices who are on the Supreme Court now, and I can tell you with confidence that Roe vs. Wade, the right to abortion, is going to be eliminated by this Supreme Court, no doubt. This is something that in previous years they have wanted to do, but they lacked the numbers, and now they have the necessary numbers to do it.”

Yet it is Lozano who laces the report with a heavy dose of partisanship when replying to Malouf:  Híjole, (darn) not very heartening, Joseph.
