CNN: Trucker Protest Is ‘Insurrection,’ ‘Sedition,’ ‘Threat to Democracy’

Even with CNN boss Jeff Zucker gone his poison lingers. That fact was obvious during Monday afternoon’s Inside Politics where correspondent Paula Newton and anchor John King teamed up to smear the peaceful Freedom Convey protest against Canada’s COVID-19 mandates as “a threat to democracy,” an “insurrection driven by madness,” and “sedition.” Even suggesting the nation was teetering on the brink of disaster and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had threats against this life.

There’s a state of emergency in place in Ottawa where the police chief says COVID protests are a ‘nationwide insurrection driven by madness,’” King declared, being sure to pick some of the most incendiary quotes.

Adding: “It started with the so-called ‘Freedom Convoy’ led by truckers protesting a new mandate requiring vaccines in order to enter the country.’”

Transitioning to Newton’s report, the two gawked at how “absolutely remarkable” it all was before she unloaded her own lies about what was going on. “I mean, just think of the language. I know it sounds familiar to you, right: ‘a threat to democracy’ an ‘insurrection,’ ‘sedition,’” she declared without evidence to any of it.

She chose to parrot talking points from the petty authoritarians in the Ottawa Police Department and the Liberal Canadian government.

Newton tried to reassure viewers that the supposed rabble was losing steam:

I want to be clear, things have quieted down a bit but that does not take away from the basic truck-in. Right? The sit-in that’s going in right in front of the national parliament. And as you said, this started as the Freedom Convoy. It rolled right from the west to here in the east. Spread on the weekend to several cities and towns.

Things have quieted down substantially and yet what lingers are very persistent protesters…

That was followed up with the suggestion that the truckers were threatening Trudeau’s life. “The prime minister, Justin Trudeau remains in isolation at an undisclosed location,” she said. “He calls these a ‘fringe minority.’

Newton wrapped up her report by condemning American politicians who support the rights of these Canadian truck drivers to protest and petition their government for a redress of grievances; essentially accusing them of supporting criminals:

John I also want to point out, sitting senators, sitting — at least one sitting governor are supporting these people from the United States. The police chief has a message for them: “Don’t. You are supporting unlawful behavior.”

Remarkable, you see it all around the world including there in our neighbor,” King said in faux bewilderment as if Canada was teetering on their brink of collapse.

Meanwhile, in 2020, CNN supported the Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots that destroyed people’s livelihoods and homes and resulted in deaths. They also largely ignored the CHAZ camp in Seattle that actually was a hotbed of crime including extortion and murder.

This misinformation about the peaceful Freedom Convoy was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Consumer Cellular and Liberty Mutual. Their contact information is linked so you can tell them about the biased news they fund.

JOHN KING: There’s a state of emergency in place in Ottawa where the police chief says COVID protests are a “nationwide insurrection driven by madness.” Thousands of Canadians – you see the pictures there – protesting vaccine mandates. It started with the so-called “Freedom Convoy” led by truckers protesting a new mandate requiring vaccines in order to enter the country.

CNN’s Paula Newton live for us now in Ottawa with the latest. Remarkable protest, Paula.

PAULA NEWTON: Absolutely remarkable. I mean, just think of the language. I know it sounds familiar to you, right: “a threat to democracy” an “insurrection,” “sedition.”

Things have quieted down substantially and yet what lingers are very persistent protesters here saying that, “Look, it’s not just about a vaccine mandate and being able to cross the border in your truck. No, it’s about all of it. The mask mandate. The restrictions. Everything.” They want it all gone.

And here, as in the United States, right, the United States is up to states. Here it’s up to the provinces.

The prime minister, Justin Trudeau remains in isolation at an undisclosed location. He and his children had COVID and he’s saying, “Look, this isn’t about me or the federal government.” He calls these a “fringe minority.”

John I also want to point out, sitting senators, sitting — at least one sitting governor are supporting these people from the United States. The police chief has a message for them. “Don’t. You are supporting unlawful behavior.”

KING: Paula Newton, appreciate the live update. We know you’ll keep an eye on that one. Remarkable you see it all around the world including there in our neighbor.
