Vile MSNBC: Democracy in America Is Under Threat, Just Like In Ukraine

vile-msnbc:-democracy-in-america-is-under-threat,-just-like-in-ukraine

Tiffany Cross, the radical host of The Cross Connection, became the latest MSNBC personality to compare Ukraine’s literal war of survival to the alleged “rampant voter suppression” in America on her Saturday show during an interview with Washington Congresswoman. Pramila Jayapal.

After Jayapal asserted that the war will not stop progressives from pushing their domestic agenda, Cross saw a connection between the two, “Yeah and, you know, there are some through lines here. You know, I look at what’s happening in—in– Ukraine, and I see, you know, democracy can be a fragile thing, and it feels a bit fragile in America right now.”

How absurd. Is anyone bombing or killing people in America?

Her example was Florida, “We’re seeing, you know, the Republican Party bleed it by a thousand cuts with rampant voter suppression, the Florida Republican-controlled state legislature just advanced a bill that was pushed by the Republican there, Ron DeSantis, a Florida Man, who would create a police force dedicated to pursuing election crimes. This is not a thing.”

Complicating matters is that Republicans are pro-Putin, or something, “What’s concerning though to me, Congresswoman, which I want your opinion on, there have been Republican voices who are espousing Russian talking points, who are regurgitating some of the same things Vladimir Putin said… we’ve even heard it from some elected members of Congress. How will you navigate that as we’re watching democracy in peril really all across the globe?”

Jayapal responded by being grateful that Donald Trump is no longer president and urging that the Senate do away with the filibuster.

But speaking of “espousing Russian talking points,” as Putin was gearing up for his premediated invasion in January, Jayapal criticized President Biden from the left, “We have significant concerns that new troop deployments, sweeping and indiscriminate sanctions, and a flood of hundreds of millions of dollars in lethal weapons will only raise tensions and increase the chance of miscalculation. Russia’s strategy is to inflame tensions; the United States and NATO must not play into this strategy.”

Of course, given that Cross and Jayapal are good friends, she was not called out on her actual record.

TIFFANY CROSS: Yeah and, you know, there are some through lines here. You know, I look at what’s happening in—in– Ukraine, and I see, you know, democracy can be a fragile thing, and it feels a bit fragile in America right now. We’re seeing, you know, the Republican Party bleed it by a thousand cuts with rampant voter suppression, the Florida Republican-controlled state legislature just advanced a bill that was pushed by the Republican there, Ron DeSantis, a Florida Man, who would create a police force dedicated to pursuing election crimes. This is not a thing. So, it’s not lost on me that we’re in a midterm election year. Russia has previously tried to attack our democracy by sowing discord here in the United States, hacking into some of our democratic systems. What’s concerning though to me, congresswoman, which I want your opinion on, there have been Republican voices who are espousing Russian talking points, who are regurgitating some of the same things Vladimir Putin said. We’ve seen it on Fox News with folks like Tucker Carlson, and we’ve even heard it from some elected members of Congress. How will you navigate that as we’re watching democracy in peril really all across the globe?

PRAMILA JAYAPAL: Well, we have to call it out, and we can’t forget that under Donald Trump, I mean, if people think elections don’t have consequences and their votes don’t matter, imagine, Tiffany, what it would be like, right now, if Donald Trump were in power.

What do you think?
